Themis dream

The Courts of Puerto del Rosario had to solve a rigorous program and be a representative building of one of the State’s public powers. They had to combine utility with representation, economy with meaning and efficiency with identification. The objective is to provide a recognisable structure to this part of the city, unstructured and loosely connected. However, planning a resounding volume would further fragment the environment. It had to be adapted to the scale of the site. For this, it is fragmented and staggered, giving it its maximum height and most representative character towards the main access corner, and decreasing towards the east, where a new park for the city is located. Inside, three cores make vertical movement possible. The eminently public central nucleus gives the large distributor that runs through the center of the building organising the rooms, while allowing light to enter. The other two, to the north and south, are for restricted use and connect to a perimeter ring with differentiated circulation on each floor, serving the users who make up the building for the staff and who share with detainees and State Security Forces and protected witnesses. The façades respond to the lighting approach of the project with two solutions. The East-West are herringbone glass curtain walls that twist in search of the northern light, the most optimal for offices. The North and South have a system of adjustable slats that allow light and privacy to be controlled.
